The company started its business with a petroleum storage tank farm at Dockyard Road, Apapa, Lagos. Presently NIPCO handles annually a throughput of 1.9 billion litres (1.6 Million MT). In line with the company's mission, NIPCO has expanded its operations across Nigeria's downstream oil & gas landscape.

NIPCO markets its products through strategic business units — Retail, LPG, Natural Gas, and is now venturing into the Upstream sector, taking stakes in OML 40 as part of its integrated oil & gas strategy.
