Bringing LPG Closer to Every Nigerian

NIPCO's LPG Skid programme was launched in 2010 to solve a critical last-mile challenge in Nigeria's LPG distribution chain: getting cooking gas to end users in communities far from major bottling plants and distribution hubs. The skid plant is a modular, fully self-contained LPG storage and dispensing unit mounted on a steel skid frame β€” enabling rapid deployment at any NIPCO retail site.

Each NIPCO skid plant is fitted with a computerised control system that manages safety interlocks, batch dispensing for cylinder filling, and metered auto-LPG dispensing for vehicles. The dual-purpose design means a single skid installation serves two markets simultaneously: domestic LPG cylinder refills and automotive LPG for converted vehicles.

Skid plants are deployed in NIPCO-branded retail stations across Nigeria, dramatically expanding LPG access in areas previously underserved by the traditional LPG retail chain. By integrating LPG at the point-of-sale, NIPCO is accelerating Nigeria's LPG penetration β€” reducing dependence on firewood and charcoal for cooking and improving health and environmental outcomes across the country.

What Makes the NIPCO Skid Different

Fully Computerised Control

Every skid is managed by a dedicated PLC (Programmable Logic Controller). The system handles batch preset dispensing, over-fill protection, emergency shutdown, flow metering and data logging β€” ensuring safety and accuracy without manual intervention.

Dual-Purpose: Cylinder + Auto LPG

A single skid plant serves both domestic cylinder refilling and auto-LPG fuelling for converted vehicles. Separate dispensing points with dedicated metering ensure safe, accurate service for both product streams simultaneously.

Safety by Design

Built-in gas detection, automatic emergency shut-off valves, pressure relief devices and grounding systems are standard on every NIPCO skid. The units are designed to DPR specifications and undergo commissioning inspection before service.

Rapid Deployment & Scalability

The modular skid format means units can be transported and installed at any NIPCO retail station with minimal civil works. This makes LPG expansion faster and more cost-effective than constructing fixed cylinder sheds or standalone LPG outlets.
